Why We Ask for Your Name
Coffee is what brings us together—care is what makes it matter.
If you’ve ever ordered at Corner Coffee, you know we’ll probably ask for your name.
At first glance, it might seem like a small thing—just a way to keep drinks organized. But for us, it’s much more. Asking for your name is about beginning a conversation, a connection. It’s one of the ways we say: you matter here.
We’ve learned something important over the years: people don’t come to Corner only for coffee. They come because they want to be noticed, welcomed, remembered. They want to belong somewhere—even if it’s just for the ten minutes it takes to sip a cappuccino.
And honestly? That’s what we want too.
The best part of the day
A phrase we keep coming back to at Corner Coffee is this: “the best part of the day.”
We don’t always get it right. We’re not perfect. But it’s something we’re striving for. Every smile at the register, every remembered name, every moment we pause to ask how someone’s day is going—those are opportunities to make someone’s day just a little lighter.
And often, that goes both ways. Our baristas talk about how a kind word or a familiar face from across the counter has lifted their day too. Care is not one-sided—it’s shared.
Why names matter
Names carry story. They shift a transaction into something personal.
We’ve had customers move across the country and still send cards to baristas. We’ve had people stop back years later—not just for coffee, but to reconnect with someone who once remembered their name and asked about their life.
Customers never expect us to remember. But when we do, it feels different. It feels human.
Striving, not perfect
We don’t share this because we’ve mastered it. We share it because this is what we’re aiming for.
Sometimes we’re tired. Sometimes we miss a name or forget to ask. But our hope is that through awareness and intention, we’ll keep leaning into what matters most: people.
Because coffee is what brings us together.
Care is what makes it matter.
